Isaiah 60:1 NLT
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.”
There’s something about light streaming through a window that creates a sense of beauty in a very ordinary living space. We are drawn into the atmosphere and it’s almost mesmerizing in its beauty. The room seems new because it glows with light. Light is transforming and we feel lifted up by it. In fact, it’s amazing that the treatment of winter depression is done using light therapy. Light is a powerful force, whether by a single light breaking through the darkness or the distant stars light years away shining on the earth – our life is brightened by light!
Genesis 1:3 records God’s first statement, “Let there be light” and light came. God said the light was good and he separated light from darkness. The power of light is that it dispels the darkness. Light overcomes darkness, whether by stars from a distant galaxy or a simple candle lighting a room – light is a greater force than darkness. The power of illumination in our lives is we are separated from darkness. God’s light shines on us and we are transformed. Light exposes but even more than that we are drawn towards it and away from the darkness.
